英文の質問。『those who think that matter is an illusion are apt to think the same of dirt,

and by so thinking to cause their children to die.』

（この問題は幻想であると考える人たちは汚物についても同様に考え、そのように考えることによって子供たちを死に追いやるのである。）という訳が正しいのですが、３点質問があります。



①think the same of dirt がなぜ、「汚物についても同様に考え」になるのでしょうか。

直訳したら、「汚物の同じものを考える」になりますよね？



②by so thinking to cause their children to die のところで by so thinking が文末ではなく、文頭にあるのが不思議です。これは強調ってことですか？



③by so thinking が by thinking so ではないことが不思議です。

これも強調の倒置ですか？？

１．この the same は、「同様に」という意味の副詞です。

(ex) I don't think the same as you do.

「君とは、考え方が違うんだ」

I feel the same about what he said.

「彼の発言に関しては、私も（あなたと）同じに感じる」

（必ず、辞書で確認してくださいね）



他方、(think ) of dirt は、「ダートについて（考える）」

なので、think the same of dirt なら、

「ダートについても、同じように考える」という意味になります。



２．by so thinking は、and の前の think the same

of dirt を受けているので、この位置の方が文末よりも

自然に思います。ただ、その分、to cause が apt からつながって

いるのがわかりづらくなる憾みはありますが。ま、to-不定詞なので

誤解されることはないでしょう。



３．これには正直ややびっくり。

I think so.

という表現からわかるように、普通 think の後に so が来ます。

ただ、so I am とか so am I という倒置表現がありますから、それを

まねたと言ってよいのではないかな。そして、and by so thinking と

一体化することによって、読者を惹きつける表現になっていますね。
