英語がさっぱりわかりません。

・本文

As you know,every summer,the National High School Baseballchampionship is held at koshien Stadium.

There,many players from losing teams put dirt from the baseball field bags to remind them of the game.



In 1958,a baseball team from Okinawa took part in the championship for the first time.

It was Shuri High School in Naha City.

Unfortunatery,the team lost in the first game.

The players put some dirt into bags.

Afterwards,they went back to Okinawa by ship.

But they couldn't take the dirt back home,

because,Okinawa was under the rule of the U.S.forces at that time.



In those days,people needed to have a passport to travel between Okinawa and mainlaid Japan.

In addition,people had to have their baggage inspected at customs.

At customs ,the players were told that people could'nt bring the dirt to Okinawa from mainland Japan.

They had to throw the dirt into the sea from their ship.



A woman in mainland heard this news and decided to do something for them.

She found out that small stones could be brought to Okinawa.

So she sent some small stones from Koshien Stadium to the players.

The stones are still exhibited in Shuri High School.

ご存じの通り、毎年夏に甲子園球場で

高校野球選手権大会が開かれています。

そこでは負けたチームの多くの選手は

球場の砂をつめ、その試合を忘れないように持って帰ります。



1958年、初めて沖縄から野球チームが選手権大会に参加しました。

那覇市の首里高校でした。

残念なことに、一回戦で敗退しました。

一部の選手がかばんの中に砂をつめました。

その後、彼らは船で沖縄へと帰って行きました。

しかし、彼らはその砂を家へと持ち替えることはできませんでした。

なぜなら、当時の沖縄はアメリカ軍の統治下にあったからです。



当時、人々は沖縄と日本本土を旅行する為に、

パスポートをもつ必要がありました。

加えて、人々は慣例として、

手荷物検査を受けなくてはいけませんでした。

その慣例により、選手たちは日本本土から沖縄へ

土を持ち替えることはできないと話されました。

彼らは船からその砂を投げ捨てなくてはなりませんでした。



本土のある女性がこの話を聞き、

彼らに何かをしようと決意をしました。

彼女は沖縄に持っていくことのできる、

小さな石を見つけました。

彼女はその小さな石を甲子園球場から、

選手の元へと送りました。

その石は未だ首里高校に展示されています。
